Cllr Rena Donaghey to retire from native politics at subsequent election

Lengthy-standing Buncrana councillor Rena Donaghey has confirmed that she is not going to be in search of re-election this June.

Cllr Donaghey has served the folks of Inishowen and Donegal for nearly 30 years, having been first elected to the native authority in 1999.

The Fianna Fáil councillor was elected Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council in 2020, turning into the third lady within the place and the primary feminine Fianna Fáil member to fill the position in Donegal.

Paying tribute to Cllr Donaghey in the present day, Sinn Féin Cllr Jack Murray mentioned: “Although of various political persuasions, we constructed a really robust working relationship over the past 13 years and all the time supported one another on areas of widespread floor or on these affecting Buncrana and South Inishowen.

“Figuring out Rena, this shall be bittersweet. She’ll miss political life however she shall be relishing the additional time along with her grand youngsters.”
