Mona McSharry scooped gold for Eire within the European U23 swimming championships in Dublin.

The Sligo native, who swims with Ballyshannon Marlins, took gold within the closing of the 50m breaststroke on 30.37 seconds.

The opening night of the Championships noticed three golds for Eire. Daniel Wiffen and Ellen Walshe additionally gained finals on Friday night on the Nationwide Aquatic Centre.

McSharry may even tackle the 100m breaststroke this Saturday and the 200m breaststroke on Sunday.
